What’s so great about natural soaps?

Oh heavens! Let me count the ways.

Cold process soap is very different experience from conventional, store bought soaps that are often over-processed with synthetic surfactants, foaming agents, and cheap fillers. The soaps I make by hand are made with natural oils and plant based butters, and naturally produce a rich, silky lather without the help of synthetic surfactants or detergents. Yep, that’s right - shower gel is technically a detergent, not a soap. Synthetic surfactants can be too harsh on the skin and strip the skin of moisture. That’s why I formulate my cold process soap specifically for people with sensitive skin - cause who needs that other nonsense chemical stuff when you’ve got the real thing!

I have sensitive skin / am allergic to fragrance. Can I use Beanblossom soaps?

I have something for everyone here at Beanblossom Soaps! My favorite to recommend is “NOT SO PLAIN JANE”, which is unscented and made without any additional botanicals or additives, specifically for those with sensitive skin. So you can join in the soap fun too!

How do you make it?

You can watch me make soap HERE, in an instructional video I made (and wrote/recorded the music for!)

Just keep that bar away from water, and make sure it’s allowed to dry between uses, and that dreaded melt won’t happen. Water molecules have an amazing ability to stick to each other, so any water that is touching your soap bar is pulling moisture out and running away with it, causing your bar to dissolve and look puddly.

Use a soap dish or a natural fiber soap saver bag to let it dry out completely in between uses, and your soap bar will last a good long while!

Why does my soap get squishy and melty?

Can I use this bar soap as Shampoo?

Use your bar of Beanblossom Soap with confidence on hands, body, face, or as a shaving cream, but I do not recommend using it as a shampoo bar. It is not designed for hair, and can cause a disruption in the natural PH levels of your hair, possibly resulting in dryness, breakage, and stripping of natural oils. If you’d like a sustainable shampoo option, I suggest solid shampoo bars that are labeled as such (which I do not produce at this point in time.)

Why am I seeing Ruby Fray in the web address?

Ruby Fray was my band for many years, and I started that website first. The Beanblossom Soaps website has been built off of that, but it is a separate biz.
